On this day 15 April 1868, on top of Thaba Bosiu, Basotho finally formalized the British colonial rule over Basotho masqueraded as a “protection”.
It came in the wake of 12 March 1868 proclamation declared by the British Philip Wodehouse, acting in the face of the continued Voortrekker attacks against Basotho which began as early as 1865.
The country was ruled as a British colony for 98 years.
