Prime Minister Sam Matekane appears poised to pursue the impeachment of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Advocate Hlalefang Motinyane. The Lesotho Tribune reported in its issue of April 14, 2024, that the Deputy Prime Minister seeks the removal of the DPP. This week, PM Matekane wrote a letter to Adv. Motinyane, demanding she provide reasons why she should not be impeached.
Sources with intimate knowledge of the matter indicate that DPP Motinyane is being targeted for her refusal to endorse a prosecutorial strategy advocated by Deputy Prime Minister Nthomeng Majara. This strategy aimed to charge Hon. Lebona Lephema with alleged tax transgressions, purportedly to eliminate him as a political successor to Hon. Sam Matekane.
