Dr Shale sworn as the new High Court Judge

Maseru-Head of the Department of Procedural and Adjectival Law at the National University of Lesotho (NUL), Dr. Itumeleng Mamokhali Shale took an oath as the newly appointed Judge in the High Court of Lesotho at the event held at the Royal Palace on Thursday.

She was sworn in by Chief Justice Sakoane Sakoane in agreement with section 120 of the Constitution of Lesotho and the event was led by the Christian Council of Lesotho

When taking an oath, she undertook to deliver justice to all persons alike without fear, favor or bias and in accordance with the Constitution, the laws and customs of Lesotho.

The ceremony was witnessed by the King, the Prime Minister Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane, and the Deputy Prime Minister Justice Nthomeng Majara, Judges of the High Court, Ministers and Senior Government Officials.

Dr Shale is the 14th judge in the High Court of Lesotho. She was nominated together with Magistrates Motlatsi Kolisang and Palesa Rantara for interviews held on the 12th August this year. The two were the finalists among 21 applicants for three positions of judges advertised earlier this year.

However, it was clarified that only one position is being filled at this stage. Dr Shale’s recruitment was prompted by the passing of Justice Hopolang Nathane, who succumbed to cancer on April 2024 at Bloemfontein hospital. Then in August 2024, the long-serving Justice Tšeliso Monaphathi retired.
