The European Union (EU) has recently handed over office furniture and equipment to Ministry of Justice and Law. The program is procured under the support for the reform and strengthening of governance.
Speaking at the auspicious occasion, Deputy Principal Secretary (DPS) Thato Masiloane informed that this is part of the EU’s ongoing support to enhance efficiency and productivity within government institutions in the country.
“The upgraded resources are expected to help the department in managing operations more effectively ensuring better delivery of printed materials and improving overall service to the public,” She Said
She further indicated that the objectives align to the National Strategic Plan (NSDP II) extended objective (KPV) of strengthening National Governance and accountability systems.
She furthered that’ it is apparent and certain that the program will advance the effort of the Kingdom (Lesotho) aimed at providing access to justice for all and building a an effective accountable and inclusive institution at all levels.
Delivering his speech Minister Of Justice and Law Richard Ramoeletsi indicated that EU has been helping Lesotho in all direction to it’s dreams, adding the support also comes at the precise time when Lesotho is in trajectory of comprehensive national reforms and also coincidentally celebrating 200 years nationwide.
“ it’s noticeable that Lesotho is facing several Challenges relating to access to justice and governance, governance and justice services are highly centralized making difficult for Basotho especially those who vulnerable to access services,” he stressed
However with the help of EU for over 40years the government and partners is taking services to it’s people.
Ramoeletsi Informed that they already established new offices for legal aid department in Mokhotlong, Thaba-Tseka, Qacha’s Nek, Mohale’s Hoek, Mafeteng and Botha-Bothe.
To that effect, he said they are indebted to EU for the generous gesture of support as “their” vision will be realized.
Ministry of Justice and Law, Deputy Director John Nkosi Mohlouoa showed gratitude, adding that the gift will not only benefit the ministry but also will benefit Basotho as consumers if service.
“ with this equipment the ministry will have functional offices such as Legal Aid, DCEO( anti-corruption) probation and all Districts country wide,” he concluded
