Maputsoe- in a significant boost to Lesotho’s textile a garment factory, “Ever Unison garments” was officially re-opened in Maputsoe on Friday after closure in March 2023.
The re-opening of the factory was themed “Re bula lifeme”which also signals that there is more factories to be re-openedfrom September going forward.
Ever Unison Garments ( EUG) is a textile and garments manufacturing company established in 2002 in Maputsoe through the LNDC investment promotion efforts.
In March 2023, EUG similarly to other textile was hit by a significant decrease in orders caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and geopolitical issues.
EUG serves under the US through AGOA and EU market respectively, at full capacity it used to hire approximately 2000people however It’s closure affected 1300 Basotho who were laid off.
The commencement of the operation will initially generate 200 jobs, with a total of 500-600 jobs that will be generated before the end of 2024.
EUG signals the resuscitation of the manufacturing operations that were halted therefore Lesotho will not be discouraged to pursuit as an investment and sourcing destination of choice.
LNDC and the Ministry of trade will not relent in the face of adversity but instead but will ensure in it’s purpose to make a positive and sustainable impact to the economy, community and environment for the creation of intergenerational value.
This development which was widely anticipated it is a result of a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Trade, the Lesotho National Development Cooperation (LNDC) and the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
The inauguration ceremony was attended by key stakeholders, government officials and representatives from the local community all of whom recognized the importance of the venture for the country’s economy and employment landscape.
