Ex Lesotho First Lady dies 

On this day 21 June 2008, former Lesotho First Lady, ‘Maneo Mokhehle died. 

A former Queen Elizabeth II Hospital nurse in Maseru by occupation, she married former Lesotho prime minister, Ntsu Mokhehle, in 1951, just a year before Mokhehle became the leader of Basutoland African Congress (BAC) a forerunner of Basutoland Congress Party (BCP). 

She was born as ‘Maneo Koloti in Mohale’s Hoek. She went on to have three children in her marriage, two girls and one boy; Ts’eliso, Topollo and Mosongoa. 

In 1995 during the world’s women conference in Berlin, China, ‘Maneo Mokhehle was trusted with the responsibility of leading the section of regional cooperation amongst thousands of women across the world. 

On 17 July 2001, ‘Maneo Mokhehle was awarded the Most Loyal Award of Ramats’eatsana by His Majesty King Letsie III.
