A shocking incident occurred on Friday 31 May when two members of parliament representing Revolution for Prosperity (RFP) in parliament crossed over to Democratic Congress (DC).
Hon. Lephoi Makara and Hon. Kobeli Letlailane pulled an unexpected move when they hung their gloves on the RFP side and decided to join the opposition. It should be noted, history has repeated itself in this nature. DC joined parliament with 26 members, at this present moment they have 29 members. They were able to lure 3 members to their side.
On 22 August 2023 Hon. Kobeli Letlailana was furnished with a letter indicating the suspension of his membership. The contents of the letter explained how recommendations done in accordance with Article 11(b) of the Constitution decided a six (6) year suspension was worthy. The conditions of the suspension were as thus follows:
“You are prohibited from undertaking the following activities:
1. Visiting the constituencies of the party.
2. Holding meetings within your own constituency.
RFP supporters were thrilled to hear about these developments, many revealed they were pleased to see them go. There were comments left such as, “minus two problems”. Those who support DC also expressed joy and were very welcoming to the two new members upon hearing this grand transformation others referred to them as having acquired “big fish”. In like manner, others showed thoroughly shared their discontent and disapproval. “Lesotho ke ‘mantloaneng”.
In a conversation with DC Secretary General Hon. Tšitso Cheba when asked what this crossover means for DC gave a thorough statement. He responded saying believes the leadership and work portrayed by the DC has clearly impressed opponents and this is a thumbs up to DC and encouragement to keep up the good work. He said he suspects the reason the two MPs decided to join them could be because there are things, they had expected would happen which never came to pass i.e. service delivery. Due to these unforeseen circumstances, they perhaps found themselves under pressure and decided to look for other alternatives.
He concluded by saying the strength of the party has increased and as a party they are more than open for others who may wish to join them on their venture.
