State agent in court with 54 charges

MASERU-‘Mabotle Lerotholi is accused of fraud of about M1.4 Million through illegal sale of land to a client at Ha-Abia, Maseru. Landline Housing and Property director, Lerotholi is charged together with her husband, Mokutu Lerotholi, an agent aged 88 years old, Machoma Nchoma residing at Thaba-Bosiu, ‘Matankiso Makoae who is her daughter and her grandson Tankiso Makoae.

Conferring from the court papers, between 2019 and 2023, the accused collaborated to illegally sell land belonging to Nchoma to numerous buyers. Although they received payments, they failed to transfer possessionrights to the clients. 

The victims include Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA) Chief Executive Officer Nizam Goolam, Woman Police Constable Ramakau and numerous other individuals. The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences (DCEO) dragged the accused to court after investigating.

Magistrate Itumeleng Letsika returned to prison the accused, declaring that she was unable to hear their bail application due to heavy work-load. Advocate Salemane Phafane KC and Advocate Makopi Lesaane were instructed to be back on Monday to apply for bail on behalf of their clients.

The accused face 54 charges which among others include corruption, fraud and money laundering. Payments made by the victims ranged from M5, 000 to M10, 000, collectively totaling to M1 464 500
