n this day 2 April 1993, the 75 years old, Sejabanana Ntsu Mokhehle, was elected as the prime minister of Lesotho.
He became the first prime minister to be democratically elected post the 1966 independence.
He was the leader of Basutoland Congress Party (BCP) which won the 27 March 1993 elections’ in a landslide victory, defeating 11 other political parties and the independent candidates, to claim all the 65 seats in the National Assembly; where 62 legislators men and only 3 legislators were women.
Out of the those 65 members of parliament of BCP, 32 were farmers, 11 were businessmen and 8 were teachers.
