Basotho attack foreigners shops

On this day 21 May 1991, at least 20 shops owned by foreigners were destroyed by fire by angry Basotho.

On the previous day, 20 May 1991, a Mosotho woman, Manthabiseng Senatsi, was killed by a Mosotho security guard working at Harties Store, now called Pep Store, situated at Cathedral Area, Maseru, for allegedly stealing a T-Shirt.

In protest, all foreign shops were attacked by angry protesters.

Later a bus stop was opened at what is now Manthabiseng Convention Centre and named ‘Manthabiseng Bus Stop in her honour.
