BREAKING | LEC Acting Managing Director Fired

Maseru — The Acting Managing Director of the Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC), Ntsie Nathaniel Maphathe has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect, Lesotho Tribune has learned.

According to sources within the utility, the sudden dismissal was confirmed earlier this Thursday. The Acting MD, whose name has become synonymous with the company’s recent operational shakeups, will however remain within LEC, reverting to his original role as a member of the Board of Directors.

While details surrounding the dismissal remain unclear, insiders suggest it follows growing tensions between the executive management and the Ministry of Natural Resources over governance and performance matters. The move is said to have been endorsed at a high-level meeting earlier this week.

Our sources claim that the Board was unhappy with his performance including the sub standard charges he drafted for suspended executives.

An official statement from LEC is yet to be released, but employees who spoke to Lesotho Tribunedescribed the development as “unprecedented and shocking.”

The company, which has faced mounting criticism over frequent power outages and delayed projects, is now expected to appoint another acting head in the coming days.
