MASERU – The Revolution for Prosperity (RFP) has denied allegations that Prime Minister Sam Matekane met illegal miners in South Africa, calling the claims “baseless, unfounded and misleading.”
The denial follows remarks by South Africa’s Mineral and Petroleum Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe, who told a parliamentary committee on 24 February 2026 that Matekane had met with illegal miners.
In a statement issued on 25 February 2026, the RFP said the Prime Minister’s visit to South Africa followed diplomatic protocols and involved transparent engagement with relevant authorities.
The party added that the ANC Free State regional office was informed and sent a delegation.
