On this day 7 July 1965, Chief Leabua Jonathan became the second Lesotho’s prime minister.
And not just the second in terms of succession but also in terms of age.. He was only 51 years old.
His predecessor, Sekhonyana Maseribane was 47 years old in 1965.
To this day they are still the youngest prime ministers in terms of age to have ruled Lesotho.
All the other prime ministers who came after them are way over 50 years of age.
For instance; Prime Minister Ntsu Mokhehle was 75 years old in 1993 while Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili was 53 years old in 1998, and Prime Minister Motsoahae Thomas Thabane was 72 years old in 2012, Prime Minister Dr. Moeketsi Majoro was 59 years old in 2020 and lastly Prime Minister Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane was 64 years old in 2022 when he became the prime minister.
