DCP Mokete Returns to Work Amid Ongoing Police Tensions

Impeccable sources within the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) have confirmed to Lesotho Tribune that Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Paseka Mokete has reported back to work following his suspension by Commissioner of Police (Compol) Borotho Matsoso.

Mokete’s return reportedly took place earlier today at police headquarters, sparking mixed reactions among senior officers and rank-and-file members who remain divided over the ongoing internal wrangles within the police command.

His reinstatement follows a meeting held at the State House on Monday between Police Minister and Prime Minister, after his suspension by Compol Matsoso, a move that many inside the LMPS. Sources close to the matter say Mokete resumed duties without any formal communication to officers who had been instructed to take over his responsibilities during the suspension period.

Efforts to reach Compol Matsoso for clarification were unsuccessful at the time of publishing.

It remains unclear whether the return was sanctioned by the Police Authority or if it signals deepening divisions within the upper ranks of the LMPS. Some officers have expressed concern that the ongoing instability could undermine operational command and erode public confidence in the police service.

The Lesotho Tribune understands that the parliament will summon minister of police viewing the repeated power struggles at the LMPS as symptomatic of a broader governance crisis in key state institutions.

This is a developing story.
