The Commonwealth Games Association of Lesotho held a farewell ceremony for the Commonwealth Games team. The 14 athletes will represent the Kingdom at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. The Games run from 23 July to 2 August. Glasgow 2026 marks the second time the Scottish city hosts the event. Glasgow previously hosted a successful edition in 2014. Seventy-four nations and territories will compete across ten sporting codes. These include athletics and para athletics, swimming and para swimming, 3×3 basketball and wheelchair 3×3 basketball, boxing, track cycling, artistic gymnastics, lawn bowls and para bowls, netball, weightlifting and para powerlifting.
Team Lesotho takes part in only two disciplines. These are athletics and boxing. Both male and female athletes compete. They carry the country’s hopes on the international stage.
The farewell ceremony took place at the British High Commission in Maseru on Thursday, 16 July. Government officials, sports administrators and supporters attended the event. They wished the team well ahead of departure.
Minister urges determination and pride
Minister of Sports Hon. Mputi Mputi officially bid farewell to the 14 athletes. He urged them to compete with determination, discipline and pride. He asked the athletes to fly the Lesotho flag proudly in Glasgow.
Athletics squad joins Commonwealth Games team
Lesotho’s athletics team comprises eight athletes. The squad splits equally between the men’s and women’s teams.
The men’s squad features Mojela Koneshe. He will compete in the 100m and 200m. Neo Ntelele enters the 200m and 400m. Kente Mokheseng also runs the 200m and 400m. Kamohelo Mofolo contests the 5,000m and 10,000m events.
The women’s athletics team includes Malia Nalane in the 100m and 200m. Mamakoli Senauoana competes in the 200m and 400m. Manqabang Tsibela runs the 800m and 1,500m. Nthabiseng Lekotoko takes on the 5,000m and 10,000m.
Boxing contingent completes Commonwealth Games team
In boxing Lesotho fields six athletes across various weight divisions.
The men’s team consists of Refiloe Thai at 70kg. Pooana Khoahli competes at 65kg. Toka Litabe enters at 60kg. Mathealira Seholohohlo fights at 55kg.
The women’s team is made up of Realeboha Segoete at 60kg and Rapelang Maselela at 57kg.

With a balanced blend of sprint, middle distance and long distance athletes alongside the boxing contingent, the Commonwealth Games team heads to Glasgow. The athletes aim to make their mark against top competitors from across the Commonwealth.
Acting British High Commissioner of the Kingdom of Lesotho, Olivia Hildebrand urged Basotho to support the nation’s representatives. The athletes rise to the occasion. They will deliver performances that inspire pride back home. They showcase Lesotho’s growing talent on the international stage.
