Lesotho’s most explosive treason case in decades is unfolding right before our eyesLesotho Tribune can exclusively reveal that Retired Major General Samuel Makoro, former high-ranking commander of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF), has been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to topple the government and declare part of South Africa [Free – State, Eastern – Cape, and  KwaZulu-Natal] part of Lesotho’s territory.

Makoro is likely to appear in court tomorrow, where he will be formally charged alongside Dr. Tšepo Lipholo, the already-detained opposition firebrand who is facing treason charges.

Sources within the security cluster have confirmed that Makoro’s arrest is part of a broader investigation into a clandestine network allegedly involving active LDF personnel, members of the Lesotho Mounted Police Service, and influential church leaders.

“This is not an isolated plot. What we’re looking at is a coordinated conspiracy that stretches from the barracks to the pulpit,” a senior intelligence official told Lesotho Tribune under strict anonymity.

While Makoro and Lipholo are now in custody, our sources confirm that multiple high-profile arrests are imminent. Arrest warrants have reportedly been issued for several church leaders and currently serving security force members believed to have played critical roles in the planning of the alleged insurrection.

There are reports of internal briefings cautioning against possible retaliation or unrest.

“The country was closer to chaos than anyone realized,” a military insider revealed. “This is a matter of national survival.”

The government has not yet issued an official statement, but the Security Council meeting has reportedly been convened late last week, where Sam Matekane was briefed.

This is a developing story, and Lesotho Tribune will bring you minute-by-minute updates as the as arrests continue.
