The Ministry of Gender, Youth and Social Development is rolling out business and skills training across Lesotho. Officials have announced the fourth cohort of the Sebabatso and STEAM 2026 Youth Empowerment Initiative.
Minister Pitso Lesaoana spoke at a media briefing in Maseru on Thursday. He said the campaign aims to give young Basotho practical tools to start and grow their own businesses.
Ministry teams will visit community councils in every district. They will meet residents and explain the Sebabatso and STEAM programmes. The goal is to raise awareness before this year’s youth competition.
District teams to promote Sebabatso and STEAM
Many young people struggle with online applications. District teams will help those unfamiliar with digital platforms to complete and submit forms.
Extended deadline and scam warning for Sebabatso and STEAM
The Ministry has extended the application deadline. It was originally set for 31 July. Young people now have extra time to apply.
Minister Lesaoana warned the public about scammers. “Applications for Sebabatso and STEAM are free of charge,” he said. “No one should pay any fees. Do not give money to anyone who promises to help you get selected.”
He called on parents, chiefs and community leaders to spread the message and protect young people from fraud.
Campaign closes on International Youth Day
The district visits begin in Botha-Bothe on 20 July. The campaign ends on 12 August, International Youth Day. The Right Honourable the Prime Minister will officiate the official closing ceremony.
Sebabatso focuses on business development, funding and mentorship. STEAM builds skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. Both programmes help youth create jobs and compete in the modern economy.
Minister Lesaoana encouraged all eligible young people to attend the meetings in their districts.
