Lesotho Confirms First Case of Foot-and-Mouth Disease

Lesotho has recorded its first ever confirmed outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in cattle, marking a serious development for the country’s livestock sector and animal health authorities. According to official statements from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition, veterinary teams identified cattle displaying symptoms consistent with FMD on 18 February at a cattle post in Mahlasela, Botha-Bothe District, near the border with South Africa’s Free State Province.
